Bare Necessities Index: The first ever BNI (bare necessities index), released as part of the Economic Survey notes that the availability of “bare necessities” such as housing, water, sanitation, electricity and clean cooking fuel have improved across all states in the country in 2018 compared to 2012. Access to basic necessities such as drinking water, sanitation, housing and other facilities across states in India improved in 2018 over 2012. Economic Survey 2020-21 constructs a Bare Necessities Index (BNI) at the rural, urban and all India level. THE FOLLOWING OBSERVATIONS OF PROF. FOOD BHAT : Firstly, some of the directive principles of State policy, which are related to distributive justice, moulded the property relations by influencing the interrelationship doctrine, both directly and indirectly.
